Hundreds of social leaders in Colombia have been killed since the 2016 peace accord between the Colombian government and the FARC. Today, the sustained, lethal violence against such leaders is the most conspicuous failing of peace implementation. And while the government, civil society, and the international community are united in their desire to see the killings end, they often disagree on the causes of the violence and how to address it.
To discuss the causes, consequences, and responses to violence against social leaders in Colombia, the Inter-American Dialogue and the International Crisis Group (ICG) are pleased present the online event “Waiting for Peace: Violence Against Social Leaders in Colombia.” The panel discussion will include a presentation of a new report by the ICG, “Leaders under Fire: Defending Colombia’s Front Line of Peace.”
