The use of geospatial data and technology can support Indigenous youth and strengthen their role as agents of change in their communities to protect their environment, biodiversity and preserve their cultural traditions. In line with this year’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples’ theme, ‘Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination,’ Global Forest Watch (GFW) and the Geo Indigenous Alliance invite you to a virtual discussion with a panel of young, Indigenous women leaders from Latin America. Our speakers will share their stories and perspectives on the role of youth in land and forest protection, how geospatial data and technologies can help support community rights to self-determination and collective management of resources, and share challenges and opportunities to develop solutions that address their needs and those of their communities. This event will be in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation to English.

Las personas que exponen compartirán sus historias y perspectivas sobre el papel de la juventud en la protección de la tierra y los bosques, sobre cómo los datos y las tecnologías geoespaciales pueden ayudar a respaldar los derechos comunitarios a la autodeterminación y la gestión colectiva de los recursos, y compartirán desafíos y oportunidades para desarrollar soluciones que aborden sus necesidades y las de sus comunidades. Este evento será en español con interpretación simultánea al inglés.
